No. A basket can hold an item for comparison or an unfinished decision. The shop remembers the basket. You still get to choose whether you want it.
The cart has a memory. Your decision can change after it was saved.
Shopify documents checkout-recovery messages that merchants can use for abandoned checkouts. A shop can use this feature to send a message after a checkout is left unfinished.
A fictional person adds headphones to compare shipping costs, then closes the shop. A reminder arrives the next day saying the order is waiting. The saved basket establishes which item was selected. It does not establish a promise to complete the purchase.

| Step | Question or meaning |
|---|---|
| Add headphones | You want to check shipping costs. |
| Close the shop | You have not decided to order. |
| Reminder arrives | The shop brings back the saved basket. |
Compare the basket with your original task. The price, seller, address or stock may have changed. A recovery link may bring back details automatically, including quantities you no longer want.
An added discount is another offer to assess. Recalculate the total and check its conditions before treating it as a reason to finish. A reduced price can help with a planned purchase; it cannot identify what you originally intended.
A reminder can be useful if a connection failed or you meant to finish later. The same system can send it after deliberate abandonment. You can edit or leave the basket again. If you decide to buy, use the price and terms shown now.
